Summary: All I wanted and more!
Comment: The GolfLogix I purchased was all that I wanted from a golf GPS and more. The large print makes it ideal for golfers that have difficulty reading small print. It is simple to download the various golf courses and the price could not be beat. I like th idea of just using regular batteries rather that having to remember to recharge it after each use. Very happy with the information and accuracy my GolfLogix provides and suggest others to purchase this product.

Summary: GOLFLOGIX GPS ROCKS!!
Comment: Just had to let people know some of my thoughts about the 2008 GolfLogix GPS and it's Customer Support.

First of all, I am and have been very thoroughly pleased & satisfied with the choice I made to purchase my first GolfLogix GPS (instead of the other well-known competitors) a year or so ago. It is the coolest thing going! Not only is it simple to use (which is key for me), but it also has greatly enhanced the game for me and my friends and made it more interesting & fun. It's surprising how quickly some of my skeptical golfing pals & acquaintances realize just how neat it is once out on the course ... Especially after getting some of the jealous snickers & stares from them before a round. Most of them I believe are the kind that wouldn't even think about spending a buck on some sort of gadget. But how their attitudes change after experiencing playing a round with it and seeing how much guess work it takes out of the game. This is quite notable on blind-holes, or holes with yardages that just don't seem to jive with what is posted or marked on some courses, or when the tee-box markers are moved. This surprises many, and helps all of us to finally realize (after many years) why our ball never traveled the distance we hoped it would because on the club selection we'd made based of those posted yardages or markers. And how helpful it is to know the distances to & over hazards, to lay-ups, and how far it is to the front, middle & back of greens. What a difference this makes when being able to make a more decisive decision on how we (hope to) play a shot.

I loved last years G7 model (which I sold to my best friend), and now I am enjoying the heck out the new upgraded G8 model! In fact, my best bud liked the new one so much that he went and ordered one too (jealousy I guess?). Thus we both just decided to keep the G7 for a back-up (or to lend it out to our 'deep-pocketed' golf pals). And why not keep it?... It surely served our golfing needs way more than we could of hoped for ... But then again it is powered by Garmin, a #1 leader in satellite/gps technology! But I must say that all of the newly added features & upgrades to the new G8 model are not only an improvement, but now inject even more enjoyment into the game for my friends and I. Not having to calculate in our heads anymore as to just how far we hit our tee-ball, last shot, or to lay-up distances are just a few that really come in handy at times ... Not to mention that more courses can now be downloaded & saved to the unit itself, and how it now automatically finds those courses. Golflogix has just about thought of everything that is of importance or interest in a round of golf. AND on top of that, it is durably constructed and waterproof ... WOW what more could anybody want?! It is so simple and user friendly beyond expectations, that a monkey (and even some of my '?' buddies) could use it! Hey, who wants to be distracted by having to push all kind of buttons -or scroll to different screens to get information wanted or needed while playing a round ... That wouldn't be fun at all! So THANKS GolfLogix & Garmin ... You've definitely collaborated & designed the best golf gps product on the market and for the money, hands down!! Let me also point out that the $29.95 yearly-fee (a mere pittance of $2.50 per month / $.82 a day) for unlimited course downloads seems so incredible to me, especially since there are some 17,000+ (and counting) courses to choose from. UNBELIEVABLE! ... Simply an unbelievable deal!!

AND NOW to get to another very important reason I was compelled to write this review. It is about GolfLogix's customer service / technical support department, one that I am SO HAPPY to express my appreciation for, and consider more like friends! What great representatives for the GolfLogix and Garmin names! Also, what an absolute pleasure it is to have a group of rep's like that on the other end-of-the-line to speak with. One can only imagine just how swamped they must be with their daily duties to insure that their product is the best on the market, or with taking phone-calls and replying to email ... yet they respond very cordially as though you are the one most important person they need to satisfy. Not only are they friendly, helpful people with knowledge & enthusiasm about their product, but they go (beyond) that extra mile to do their absolute best to insure that dealing with GolfLogix is as good & enjoyable an experience as possible! If only all customer support dept.'s were like the GolfLogix team ... What a wonderful world it would be! They have always (from the beginning) made me feel totally welcome to call anytime, and never made me feel as though I am a bother. How great is that! Prompt returns calls, email replies, and the immediacy to resolve any questions, problems or re-mapping is foremost on their daily agenda ... I really like that! Yes, such a like-able bunch they are, that it will keep me coming back to these two respectful Companies in the future. Y'ALL GET A PAT ON THE BACK FROM ME! ... I'm a GOLFLOGIX (and Garmin) fan for life!

HEY ANDREW ... U-da-Man!!

Summary: Good device that could be better
Comment: I got the device last week and played two rounds of golf using it. By and large I am satisfied with the performance. The unit worked as advertised.

Here are some things to be aware of:

1. I was using the cart and there were several times when on reaching the ball I saw a 15 yard difference between what the unit was indicating and what the marking on the course was. I realized that you need to give the unit about 20 seconds after stoppint the cart to give the exact distance. If you walk to the ball, there is no issue..it will provide correct distance always.

2. The unit has two screens per hole. One showing distance to the green and the other showing hazard distances. The second screen does not indicate what hole it is showing distances for..would be a nice and simple enhancement.

3. Battery life is good..I played 2 rounds and the battery indicator barely moved.

4. looks and feels rugged and the belt clip is handy

5. I had an initial question about accessories. I emailed golflogix and got a response within a day.

6. Downloading courses to the device was quick and easy

I bought because of Garmin brand. I have a mobile garmin gps for my car, which i love.

Summary: Never guess about yardage again
Comment: I bought the GolfLogix GPS from Amazon because of the Garmin name and the price. After my purchase, Amazon dropped the price by $4. I sent them an email and they refunded the difference. How many merchants will do that? Many of my golf partners have the SkyCaddie SG-2 and I think that the GolfLogix is a superior product. It uses common AA batteries, although it consumes them quickly, as noted in other reviews. That's not a big problem. I use Energizer rechargeables, and keep an extra set in the bag ready to go. Unlike the SkyCaddie, if the battery goes dead in the middle of a round, you can easily pop in a new set and be back in business by the next hole. All of the courses in my community are covered by GolfLogix, except executive links. On the first day of use, a passing rain shower had the SkyCaddie folks scrambling to cover their units. I had no worries with the GolfLogix as it is water resistant. During initial use, I checked the accuracy with every known marker on the course (200, 150 & 100 yards) and the GolfLogix was with 2 yards every time. Perhaps the most amazing part of the information is the distance to hazards. One dogleg on my home course is protected by trees on the right. GolfLogix gave the distance to the trees. Once you set it for the first hole, you don't have to touch it again. The screen is very clear and easy to read. I am far sighted and prefer to wear sun glasses instead of reading glasses on the golf course, but I have no problem reading this gps. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of battery life. I would have made it four and a half, if I could. It is truly an amazing product that every serious golfer should have.
