Summary: Great device
Comment: I read quite a few reviews before deciding on this unit. This is my first GPS unit, and has worked as descrided from the moment I turned it on. An hour after I received this unit, I went for a short drive to best buy to look for a case. When I got back, I plugged it into Google Earth, and saw the path I took. It never lost signal, even inside the store you can see the isle I went down. amazing! I have great reception even in buildings, it has never lost signal, in the car at home or shopping at the mall (had to try it). I bought this unit to plug into my Nikon D200, which also worked from the begining, plugged it in (with Nikon's adapter) and had no problem. Some times I take so many photo's while traveling around Arizona that I can't remember where that photo was taken, it's a big help. Battery life was ok about 1.5 days, you can also turn off the compass to save battery life.
The only problem I've had is finding a case that fits, the case listed according to the reviews would be to large. I do recommend reading the manual completely. The manual does lack detail in certain areas, maybe just because I'm a first time user of GPS.
Highly recommened!!!!

Summary: used this for a week straight
Comment: Bought the 2Gig micro SD card and City Navigator V.8. Also the Garmin suction cup device for the windshield.

Found excellent reception in deep forest, cities. Never lost contact with satellites except in metal/concrete buildings.

City Navigator was flawless in bringing me to the front door of places in the USA and Montreal. Large data base seems to have almost everything in it.

Batteries lasted about 15-20 hours. I turned off the electronic compass to save juice. Would buy the power cord if I planned a long car trip, esp. with night driving involved.

Programming destinatations is easier in this than in either of my two cars (Infiniti and Acura). I found the beeping noise signalling an upcoming turn to be loud enough and timely in warning of a turn.

Summary: Extraordinary
Comment: I bought this GPS before a trip to Central America. This device is so sensitive it worked wonders even in the jungles of Belize, with thick tree cover. It also works fantastically in the car. I was concerned about it not working unless it was on the dashboard, but we just dropped it in the centre console of the car and it worked perfectly. It also is very fast to get a fix - older devices that I own sometimes take a few minutes, but this one is 5-10 times faster. I have not used any of the map products that can be purchased, so I cannot attest to them, but the base map functions all over the world and is enough to get you out of trouble. If you want a rugged, easy to read, speedy GPS, I give this device an unconditional thumbs up.

Summary: Excellent choice for multi-use GPS
Comment: I did a lot of research and am happy with my GPSMap60csx. It does everything and more - from navigating in the woods in deep tree cover to driving to an address in suburbia. When researching which unit to buy - my main concern was that when I am in the deep forest - that it retain reception of the satellites. It did that last month while in deep fir forests of SW Mt. St. Helens area. I was able to navigate accurately. My old Etrex Vista didn't have the new SirfStar chip. The GPSMAP60csx does have it and it is phenomenal. However, the Magellan Crossover (I've tried it and returned it) had it too -but it wandered a lot! So I guess the big antenna on the 60csx really does help. Additionally, it's automotive application is just fine too. It can't speak directions - but I found that distracting anyway. I am using TOPO and City Navigator on my unit. But you can't use both at the same time. Also, you should plan on spending the money for the extra maps (TOPO & CN). The default maps that come with it are just not good enough to do much with. IF you are not going to use the power that this offers - then just buy a cheap $100 unit. The screen is hard to see during the day unless there is ambient light shining directly on it - or if you angle the unit just the right way. But that is the nature of color screens unless you have a backlight on. But that would run down the battery. Battery life is excellent. I used this for about 10 hours total over 3 days on the same batteries. I am sure they would go a lot longer than that (regular alkalines).
One last item... Garmin HAS to develop two things:
1. Topo and City Navigator should work together or overlay. Right now, you have to manually switch from one to the other to use in the same area.
2. Topo is not detailed enough with their contour lines. Their parks version of topo is detailed good - to a better scale. However, the regular Topo is barely detailed enough with elevation data to use effectively while hiking in rough terrain. Really steep areas don't look that steep on the maps due to the contour lines.
